It’s crazy how popular Salsa is. Everywhere, young and poor, across the world’s continents, you’ll find a solid community of salseros. It just makes people come together, whether they’re athletes, enthusiasts, performers, or just looking for a good time -people just enjoy the dance.

It has been proved that dancing is the highest form of communication and expression in all the arts. It has the ability to bring people together over and over in the different festivals held around the world in its name. Salsa is one among them. Here’s a list of some of the salsa congresses and festivals to be held this year:

5 of the salsa festivals held around the world

The 4th annual China Salsa Congress -International China Salsa Championships

The 7th Annual Canada Salsa Congress: Even in the Great White North, the heat and passion of the dance is felt. The congress will be held on October 8 to 12, 2009, at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Toronto, Canada. Canada brings us Willy Torres’ New York City Salsa Project, one of the greatest mambo bands in the scene, live and in concert on October 10. Joining them is Canada’s own San Tropez, Victor & Katia, and many others.

The 5th Acapulco Salsa Congress: What better setting for this fiery dance than romantic Acapulco, Mexico? The congress will be held on November 5 to 8, 2009, at the Great Hall Cabaret in the Grand Hotel Acapulco. The event will be lead by Salsa’s renowned promoter Albert Torres and Mexico’s own Victor Burgos and Gabby Bernal. Don’t just pack for Salsa, take advantage of the beach as the hotel also offers activities like Jet skiing, parasailing, bungee jumping, etc.

The 4th India International Salsa Congress 2009 & Salsa World Cup Qualifiers

The 4th Indian International Salsa Congress: A country already obsessed with dancing is lit up once more by the magic of Salsa. The director of this congress is none other than India’s Lourd Vijay, whose innovation and dedication to the industry of dance and performing arts is world renowned. He’s partly responsible for popularizing Latin dance music and culture in Asia.

For the first timer, try not to be overwhelmed. It’s typical to see a congress hold parties and then a workshop the morning after. If you’ve the energy, go ahead and indulge in everything you get your hands on, otherwise, give yourself the chance to rest.

All of these festivals and congresses will be jam-packed with salseros and salseras. There are likely to be workshops all day and parties till the early morning. Pace yourself and try not to be overwhelmed by the activities and festivities. Catch as much rest and sleep as you can -you’ll soon find out that hours of everyday dancing can and will take its toll soon. Above all, dance your heart out.
